This program is designed to equip you for paid or volunteer employment in ‘English as a Second Language’ (ESL) teaching positions. It will provide you with a range of knowledge and skills to plan and deliver English lessons, as well as further develop specific competencies in an elective area. With a high focus on practical demonstration of skills, you will be ‘employment ready’ upon your graduation.

  • Units: 10 units (9 core & 1 elective)

  • Delivery: This program is delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams with 3 hours of virtual class sessions and 3 hours assessment/delivery per week, which are virtual as well. Assessments and resources online via the Learning Management System. Some in-person attendance may be required for placement hours or mandatory workshops.

  • Duration: 15 hours structured self-paced online learning per week for 26 weeks, plus a 4 week break

  • Work Placement: 12 hours mandatory work placement

 

Students must have access to a computer or laptop to complete the course.

Students must complete mandated work placement hours of 12 hours including a combination of

  • 6 hours ESL classroom observations

  • and 6 hours teaching practice

With an Australian Bachelor’s degree in any field, Certificate IV TESOL graduates could gain employment at the following institutions:

  • TAFE

  • private English language colleges

  • community and migrant centres

  • universities that offer ELICOS programs

 

Students who hold this qualification only, could have employment opportunities…

  • in private tutoring, or

  • paid work overseas

Education/Core Skills
Students must complete a Pre-Training Review, meet the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skill standards for Certificate IV level study and demonstrate that they are a suitable candidate for this course.  You may be also asked to undertake a pre-enrolment task to further assess your suitability for this course.

It is recommended that students have attained the age of 18 by the program commencement date.
